Carolina Reaper

Carolina Reaper is probably the second hottest chili in the world. This is an extremely hot hybrid released by breeder Ed Currie and his PuckerButt Pepper Company from South Carolina (USA). Until 2023, it was the Guinness World Record holder and, with over 1,500,000 SHU, the hottest chili in the world. It was replaced in 2023 by Pepper X, a variety also released by Ed Currie, which is said to have 2,600,000 SHU. Since the Carolina Reaper was named in the Guinness Book, rumors have been circulating in the world’s largest chili forums that it’s identical to 7pot Primo. Primo was named after its discoverer Troy Primo and was already available before Carolina Reaper. Whether this was a coincidence or whether a variety was copied and and renamed has never been scientifically proven. The Semillas production team is very sure that 7pot Primo and Carolina Reaper are identical.
